Since 1955, the Association of Bridal Consultants has played a pivotal role in shaping the wedding industry.

From establishing professional standards to providing education and certifications, ABC has been a trusted resource for generations of wedding professionals.

Milestones in Our Journey

  • 1955 – Bill Gelinas started what was the American Association of Professional Bridal Consultants. $100 for a plaque to display at your place of business.

  • 1981 - Eileen & Gerard were given the Association, and so then ABC was founded to bring structure and professionalism to the wedding industry

  • 1983 - First conference - Business of Brides was cancelled because they had more presenters than attendees!

  • 1984 - ABC Asia was born.

  • 1986 - Business of Brides conference had 320 attendees in Broadmoor, Colorado!

  • 1997 - The Heart Award was created to honor Dorothy Penner and her dedication to the industry.

  • 2006 - The Dialogue Newsletter was replaced by Wedding Planner Magazine.

  • 2006 Eileen & Gerard Monahan sold the Association to David Wood.

  • 2024 David Wood sold the Association to Veronica Foster

  • 2024 Certification Programs Updated and additional college-level courses added for membership.
